2nd Annual Poker Ride for Womencare Shelter!
Gather round, riders...this is how you play:
-Make a donation to play ($10 suggested for 7 cards). Pay before or after the ride. You will be able to sign up for it at the registration table OR at the top of Artist Point.
-Stop at each support station (there are 7) on your ride DOWN from Artist Point
-Draw a card from the deck provided by the Poker Ride volunteers and they will mark your sheet
-If you are happy with the hand you've drawn, then turn it in! If you're wanting another draw to improve your chances, then back in Glacier you can pay for as many cards as you want. (Again, suggested donation of $2 per card.)
-Turn in your poker sheet, and best hand wins!!
REI is sponsoring our grand prize this year....it'll be a good one for sure! And remember, ALL of the Poker Ride proceeds are donated directly to Womencare Shelter. Womencare Shelter is an empowerment based organization working to end domestic violence by providing 24 hour crisis support services, emergency confidential shelter and community education. NorKa is proud to be partnering with this local non-profit to promote their mission, and assist in fundraising activities.
Live Plein-air art!
Ready for some plein-air art this year at Festival 542? What is that, you say? Well, let us tell you. Our very own local artist, Trish Harding, came up with this wonderful idea to tie in some art to are event...and it makes it even cooler! First of all, Trish painted our fantastic poster piece for this year. She's a gem and a true talent. So, to tie in some art to the Hill Climb, there will be artists at each of the support stations who will be using their art mediums to create a piece based on all the riders heading up to Artist Point with our beautiful Cascade Mountains backdrop! After the race, those pieces will be on display and auctioned off for charity! This is a first for this kind of thing for us, and we're excited to see how it goes! And who knows, you may be subject of one of those pieces!
Here's Trish Harding's beautiful piece! Click here to check out other pieces and learn about Trish!
Live Music-Hot Bodies in Motion, Pace Rubadeau, and many more!!
This year we are stepping up the funk for ya by bringing in Seattle-based band Hot Bodies in Motion for the awards ceremony entertainment after the Hill Climb on Sunday. These guys will keep the energy and spirits up in Glacier, so stick around and get your groove on after the ride. The stage is set in the green behind Graham's for all to enjoy.
We'll update you on Saturday night bookings for Graham's Restaurant and Chair 9 as well!
Start the day off with the enchanting melodies of Pace Rubadeau serenading you through the morning before your ride. During the Hill Climb, all 5 support stations will have other live, acoustic musicians for a little bit of entertainment and encouragement for all the riders heading up to Artist Point. How perfect to be on a car-free highway, with the Cascade Mountains as your back-drop, and have live music played for you as you peddle on up the hill? We hope you enjoy the tunes!
This year at Festival 542, enjoy a local brew at the beer garden in the green behind Graham's. All proceeds will go to RESources for Sustainable Communities. RE Sources is a non-profit environmental education organization founded in 1982 as Bellingham Community Recycling. We build healthy communities by promoting and supporting waste reduction; advocating for clean water, air and energy; empowering schools to reduce their carbon footprint and putting sustainability tools into your hands.
